Coastal Erosion with Greg Berman
“Coastal Erosion on Cape Cod: What We Can Do” with Greg Berman Coastal Processes Specialist, Woods Hole Sea Grant, Cape Cod Cooperative Extension
Virtual Talk – Thursday, March 25 at 5 pm
Rising seas have played a huge role in the creation and shaping of the Massachusetts shoreline over many millennia. This session will cover historic shoreline changes due to glacial activity, and the time scales involved, as well as describing how beaches are formed and how they respond to the forces of sea level rise, tides and storm events. After a brief discussion of what the shoreline might look like in years to come and steps we can take now to preserve beaches, Greg Berman will discuss recent trends in erosion management and how local and state efforts are being managed in order to make the region more resilient.
Gregory A. Berman, PG, GISP is a coastal processes specialist for Woods Hole Sea Grant (WHSG) and the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension (CCCE) where he provides technical assistance on coastal geology topics: shoreline change, erosion control alternatives, potential effects of various human activities on coastal landforms, coastal flood plains, coastal hazards, hazard mitigation analyses, and dune restoration techniques.
