The Brewster Conservation Trust is pleased to announce it has achieved Service Enterprise Certification by Points of Light. Points of Light is the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. BCT joins organizations that are among the top 11 percent of nonprofits nationwide in volunteer management and organizational performance.

Over the past 18 months, BCT completed an extensive assessment, over 20 hours of training, and an intensive internal planning process to better integrate volunteers into their overall strategy.   “Going through this process was extremely beneficial in providing us an opportunity to improve and grow our volunteer program.” – Amy Henderson, BCT Executive Director. By achieving this level of excellence and certification, BCT is now better equipped to leverage the time and talent of their volunteers and in turn better meet their mission to preserve open space, natural resources, and the rural character of Brewster and to promote a conservation ethic.

“We have been talking for several years about how to strengthen our volunteer program in stewardship for BCT. Thanks to the work of the Service Enterprise team, we not only have a system in place, but the first two initiatives in stewardship-monitor training and boundary marking have brought in a significant number of new and enthusiastic volunteers. As VP of BCT and Chair of Stewardship (land management), I am thrilled. We have moved to a new level.”  – Bonnie Newman, Vice President BCT and Chair of Stewardship Committee.

The Service Enterprise program is a national change management program that helps organizations gain a greater return on volunteer investment to better achieve their mission. For more information regarding volunteer opportunities with BCT please go to our Support page here.

Fall 2024 Newsletter

This story started three generations ago when Ralph and Blanche Doble purchased over 70 acres along Satucket Rd. in 1955. Summer after summer, the couple’s son, five daughters, and 18 grandchildren would visit. Over the years, the land was subdivided and each Doble child received a house lot of approximately ten acres. The daughters each […]

BCT’s 40th Year Annual Report

Over BCT’s 40-year history, the evolution of our mission has been profound. What began as an effort to protect any available land from the reach of breakneck development has become a strategic approach to acquiring land with high conservation value and a steady commitment to natural resource stewardship and community outreach. Spring 2024 Newsletter

Sometimes the right place and the right time come together. In a community where housing is in short supply, this is indeed good news. Brewster’s zoning in the 1980’s established large building lots that slowed the unmanageable growth of the time but are now impeding the development of sorely needed workforce housing. Today’s Brewster needs […]
