Walk n’ Write (A Write Out Event)
We’re heading to the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History for a Write Out! Write Out invites everyone to step outside the walls of built structures to draw inspiration from the world around them through place-based writing and sharing, deepening connections to place, nature, and community.
This Walk n’ Write event will consist of small group trail walks, each led by a John Hay Writing Studio writer. Participants can linger along a nature trail while making observations and discussing their writing process. Time will be set aside to write, share, and reflect upon their work.
This program is offered in partnership with the Brewster Ladies’ Library and the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History.

Managing Fall in the Garden
In the horticultural world, fall is often labeled as a time to clean. Removing fallen leaves and dead stems and putting our gardens to bed after a long summer. However, so many of these traditional practices rob our soils of crucial nutrients and discard critical food sources and habitat for wildlife.
Join Erin Camire in a conversation on how to shift your perspective about fall cleanups. Let go of old notions about what you “should” do and learn to steward your landscape to benefit the many species that will spend the winter living there (while preparing it for spring!)
Erin has been working in Cape Cod landscapes since 2023, after graduating with a degree in forestry and sustainable landscaping horticulture from UVM. They have over six years of experience consulting for landowners big and small, from college campuses to farmers and of course, for Cape Cod landowners. Erin specializes in bringing the ecological concepts typically applied only to conserved landscapes into the hands (and backyards) of individuals, encouraging nature to thrive all around us.
JHWS Writers’ Reading
As the 2026 season of John Hay Writers’ Studio winds down, it’s time to look ahead to enjoying what this year’s writers have produced.
Join us for an evening of storytelling, prose and poetry written and read by residents of Cape Cod. Light refreshments will be served.
NOTICE TO WALK PARTICIPANTS: As much as we love our four-legged friends, BCT programs are designed only for human participants. Walks will be cancelled for extreme weather. We will notify hikers of cancellations via email by 8 am on the morning of your walk.
