The Backus Overlook
After the removal of two vacant buildings (and careful salvaging of the old timbers in one of them), a small section of scenic Rt. 6A is about to get even more scenic. With close proximity to commercial areas and bicycle and pedestrian access points, the new Backus Overlook will offer the public an accessible encounter with nature just steps away from Main Street. The surrounding green space will pay fitting tribute to Brewster’s reputation as the Conservation Town. Accessibility features such as stairless design, handicap parking, a bike rack, and a hydration station will create a space appealing to and approachable by all Brewster residents and visitors.
We are two-thirds of the way toward raising the $300,000 needed to bring about this community transformation. Your donation will make a difference.
A Critical Parcel
Brewster Conservation Trust needs to raise $25,000 to ensure the protection of an environmentally sensitive parcel of land with implications for Brewster’s water quality.
Town Meeting voters approved $275,000 of the $300,000 acquisition cost because they recognized protecting this roughly two-acre parcel - which lies upgradient of Long Pond, within the Herring River watershed, and partially within the Zone II Wellhead Protection Area - is a significant step toward protecting Brewster’s water quality. BCT is contributing the final $25,000 and will hold the Conservation Restriction protecting the property from development. Please consider making a donation to BCT so we can preserve this critical parcel of land.
We have already raised $20,000 of the $25,000 needed to ensure this land stays undeveloped. Your gift will make a difference.
Help us reach our goal.
